I recently when on a fishing trip with my family down to a little place out in the neck of the woods in Dora Missouri called River of Life Farm as I walked into the office to check-in for our reservations I had to walk through their gift shop. It was filled with cool fishing tackle as well little gifts..

One just happen to catch my eye and I was tempted to pick it up, however I didn’t get this little guy until I walked in again and said I have to have this for my office desk.  When you think of Powerbait you think of Berkley fishing bait you could catch trout with or some time of bait attractant..  As I stated in the title Hillbilly Powerbait, what is the first thing that comes to mind?

Maybe tossing a stick of dynamite in the river and catching fish the easy way “Fishing with Dynamite” … LOL well in this case this was a great little gag gift that would be perfect for any angler who likes a good laugh ..

 

As you can see, this is a cool little gift idea for any angler… All my friends laugh when they see it, ya it is not real but it sure gets a lot of attention when people walk by and see this little guy on my desk. I am not really sure where you can find one of these other than up at the river however I will ask the owner and see if they can help point our visitors in the right direction….

 

Fun Day at Smithville Lake

It was a great day on Smithville Lake, me and a buddy went fishing on a Sunday afternoon, we were on the water around 1:30pm. After we got the boat in the water we headed to Rock Creek.  We found a great cove and fished for a while, we were both fishing with spinner baits, my buddy was using a chartreuse and I was using a black and red flake.  As we got to the end of the cove I caught a 2lb bass that was hanging around a tree stump.  I let that fish go and we headed back up the same path we took. however this time I used a jig and ended up catching a 3.4lb healthy bass snuggled up along a dead tree in about 3 ft of water. He fought like a son of a gun.   A little later I snagged a good size bass that I lost at the boat, at least we got to see the fish, nice fish.   Not long after the last fish I caught my buddy finally caught a fish on his spinner bait.  Had a great day on the water can’t wait to get back to the same spot.

Smithville Marine- quick repair

I wanted to thank Travis and Smithville Marine for the great service. I pulled into the lot after a tough day of Bass fishing on Smithville lake to buy some engine oil for my boat motor. 

 

The night before my trailer lights shorted out which forced me to leave to go fishing much later than I wanted to.   I did not know what the problem was, so I told Travis about the issue when I pulled in to the dealership and he quickly diagnosed the problem and got my trailer lights working again. 

 

I tell this story because I thought I was going to have to leave the boat for repair,  instead I bought my oil and I  was on my way.  I was impressed with the service at Smithville Marine, most places would not go over the call of duty as Travis did,  Thanks

Midwest Trout Fishing Thoughts

Just Before Fall – Winter using Nitro Grease Trout Bait will catch us more trout this season…. We found a really old jar from back in California with Lip RipperZ plastic worms and Nitro Grease we would win a ton of derbies hosted by local tackle shops.

We are in the process of cleaning out our basement getting ready for the season cleaning our tackle boxes and gearing up the trout gear, light fishing line and small plastics. I put on one of our light reals a 4lb trial from Vicious Fishing and Wow talk about a thin line you can see with “NEW” Fishing Line model of Pan Fish Florescent Clear/ Blue. I even found a lime green jar, and I am not sure if I have even used it for at least 5 years, I am sure it stinks now.

Bennett Spring State Park is great this time of year for fly fishing for trout, this year I would like to fly fish for Bass as well trout however without a fly I would like to see how Lip RipperZ would work on a fly rod.
